k time to break down my feelings of this
I wasn’t sure of the costumes at first, but to be quite honest, I’m digging them having seen them in action. I guess Mercutio is missing a sleeve to show that he’s rowdy and less proper and shit, huh? ALSO JULIET’S DRESS. IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL GAH! It looks like the original Le Balcon dress only a) less sheer and b) lacking those sleeves that got caught on the balcony constantly. Now, whether or not they’re going to use that dress in the production, I’m not sure, but I like it regardless.
They also tamed Juliet’s curls which I’m not against, but I really love her natural, full-bodied curls.
On to acting…well. Les Rois du Monde had it’s awkward moments for sure. Romeo doesn’t seem to know how to command a stage so he comes off looking like a lost puppy at times. Mercutio is eyesexing all over the place with his eyeliner and things. Benvolio seemed rather forgettable? Nothing really made him stand out to me. Also they seem to be limiting their movements around the stage to keep positions, but it makes them look awkward. Usually this scene has them running around and looking very energetic, but that element was lost. I also think that putting Romeo in the very front with everyone else behind him just served to highlight any awkwardness that may have been there.
Also, why are all the Montagues guys? Where are my Montague ladies c’mon! The only girl on stage for that entire performance was Juliet! I seriously hope they’re not under representing the ladies of Verona cause they’re some of the best and sassiest parts of the musical!
I keep saying this but omfg I adore this Romeo and Juliet together. They’re really adorable.
I liked the performance of Aimer much more than Les Rois du Monde, especially with the dancer covering their eyes and trying to separate the two and stuff. I just thought that was nice to portray.
